Game Over
Game Over, abbreviated as GO, was established in 2020 by PJ Russouw and has since experienced significant growth. Operating primarily within the Garden Route and Eastern Cape regions, GO is committed to continuing its presence in these areas.
Currently, GO oversees three main projects under its umbrella, targeting the “Geekgrid” demographic. This term refers to a specific group with interests or strong connections in various areas, including arts and crafting, cosplay, gaming across multiple platforms, esports, comic books, content creation, game development, streaming, and business networking within the tech and gaming industries.
Live Initiatives:
1. Game Over Gaming: A social media and Discord community-driven network, leveraging Discord’s VoIP, video, and text communication features for specific communication needs within the gaming demographic.
2. GO Creators Project: An initiative aimed at assisting new and active content creators, streamers, and online personalities in growing their audiences through the GO network, events, and social media platforms. GO provides training, advice, and design assistance for content and branding.
3. GO League: Focused on competitive gaming, particularly targeting high school-level participants under 18 years old and amateur adults of all ages. The initiative adheres to comprehensive rules inspired by ESL standards, aiming to ensure fair competition within South Africa’s gaming landscape.
4. GO Creative Project: Centered on cosplay and visual art, providing a platform for enthusiasts to showcase their creativity and talent in costume design and visual arts within the Geekgrid community.
In Development:
GO has several other projects under development, aimed at expanding its network for business and entertainment opportunities.
GO’s Activities:
• Hosting biannual Geek festivals and regular GO League tournaments.
• Streaming on Twitch.tv.
• Providing a network for free advertisement and endorsements.
• Developing and discovering talent.
• Entertaining youth.
• Creating business and networking opportunities.
• Growing infrastructure through event ticket sales.
• Facilitating business relationships.
• Boosting the Garden Route’s business profile as a hub for esports and Geekgrid activities.
Contributions:
GO contributes to each event by providing infrastructure, including power grids, networking, artwork, promotions, staffing, and server hosting. The organization aims to ensure quality control and a seamless event experience for participants and attendees.
Requirements:
GO seeks venues or hubs with internet access, tables and chairs, ticket sales for funding infrastructure growth, electricity, sanitation, and accommodation at fair rates for its biannual events. Additionally, advance notice of event dates is crucial for proper planning and promotion.
Benefits of Participation:
Benefits for participants include support from approved suppliers, sponsors, and supporters; branding and networking opportunities; bragging rights; freedom to use GO-related content for self-promotion; inspiration and education for youth; entrepreneur opportunities; reduced liability on infrastructure and hosting; and insurance coverage for event-related liabilities and safety.
By providing a platform for gaming, creative expression, and networking, GO aims to enrich the gaming community and contribute to the growth of esports and Geekgrid culture in South Africa and beyond.
